The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was created as an independent agency in 2010 as a legislative response to the financial crisis of 2007-2008. The CFPB is responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector.
Discontent and frustration are on the rise with the CFPB. Criticism from U.S. financial regulators, the Trump Administration and the National Credit Union Administration are just a few who are unhappy with the Bureau. The concerns are that the CFPB is too unaccountable to Congress and others believe the Bureau is heavy handed with their punitive fines.
